Ladybird
A truly independent web browser built from scratch, with no Chromium, WebKit, or Gecko code.
Open source alternative to:
Ladybird is one of the most ambitious open source projects of the decade: a web browser built entirely from scratch, using no code from Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Every component — the HTML parser, CSS engine, JavaScript engine (LibJS), networking stack, and rendering pipeline — is original work.
Developed as a spinoff of the SerenityOS project, Ladybird has grown rapidly to 60,000+ stars and a dedicated non-profit foundation. It is written in C++ and targets full compliance with modern web standards, deliberately avoiding the shortcut of forking an existing engine.
Ladybird is currently in heavy development and not yet ready for daily use, but it represents a genuine alternative to the Chromium monoculture. For developers and privacy advocates who believe browser engine diversity matters, Ladybird is the most significant new browser project in years.
