Open Notebook

Open Notebook is an open-source, privacy-first reimplementation of NotebookLM, so your research and AI workflows stay on your own infrastructure instead of Google's. You self-host it via Docker or local deployment, and it gives you fine-grained control over what context is shared with the AI. It is MIT-licensed with a modern Next.js frontend and a comprehensive REST API.

Open Notebook supports 18+ AI providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Ollama, and LM Studio, so you are not locked into a single model vendor. Because local providers like Ollama and LM Studio are supported, you can run your research workflows entirely offline. This provider flexibility is a deliberate contrast to proprietary notebooks that force you onto one AI service.

It supports multi-modal sources including PDFs, videos, audio, and web pages, organized into a unified research workspace. Search combines full-text and vector search, with context-aware chat grounded in your sources. It also includes multi-speaker podcast generation, letting you turn your notes and documents into an audio briefing.
