OpenInvento
Self-hosted inventory manager for households, homelabs, and small businesses. Free for non-commercial use.

OpenInvento is a self-hosted inventory manager designed for people and teams who want to track physical items — from household goods and homelab gear to small business stock — without renting their catalog from a SaaS provider.
It organizes items in a geographical hierarchy: inventories contain areas, areas contain shelves, shelves contain chests, and chests contain articles. Each article can carry photos, file attachments such as manuals, warranty documents, and bills, plus QR codes and barcodes for quick identification. The dashboard gives an overview of the items you track, and stock levels can be monitored per article.
Multiple users can share one inventory, a user can belong to several inventories, and administrators manage accounts from a settings screen. Public signup is disabled by default, and email confirmation can be switched on or off per deployment.
Compared to proprietary inventory apps like Sortly or Asset Panda, OpenInvento runs entirely on your own machine as a single Docker container, with all data stored in a local volume you control — no subscription, no location or item limits. It is source-available under the PolyForm Shield license and free for personal, educational, and non-commercial use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which platforms does OpenInvento run on?
OpenInvento deploys as a single Docker container with a web interface accessible at port 8080. The UI is responsive and usable from phones, but there are no native desktop or mobile apps — everything runs through the browser.
What authentication options does OpenInvento support?
OpenInvento uses username and password accounts managed by administrators. An initial admin account is created via environment variables and must change its password on first login. Public signup can be enabled or disabled, and email confirmation is available as an optional admin setting.
Does OpenInvento support shared or multiple inventories?
Yes. As of the v1.0.0 release, users can belong to multiple inventories and share an inventory with other users, and administrators manage users from a dedicated settings screen.
How do I back up my OpenInvento data?
The database and uploaded files (article images and attachments) live in a single data directory, set to /data by default in Docker and backed by a named volume. Backing up that directory or volume preserves your entire inventory.
Can OpenInvento track articles with barcodes and QR codes?
Yes. Articles support QR codes and barcodes, and the web UI can detect barcodes, which makes it quick to look up or label physical items during organization or stock checks.
