Pingvin Share is a self-hosted file sharing platform — a free, open source alternative to services like WeTransfer. You upload files through a clean web interface and get a share link you can send to anyone. It runs on your own server, so files go straight to storage you control instead of passing through a third-party cloud.

Yes. Pingvin Share is designed to be self-hosted and is typically deployed with Docker (a docker-compose.yml is provided, plus other install options in the docs). Once running it listens on a local port you can expose through a reverse proxy, and the first account you create on setup becomes the administrator.

No fixed limit. Pingvin Share supports unlimited file sizes, restricted only by your available disk space. You can also set an expiration date on shares, cap the number of visits, and protect shares with a password, giving you full control over how long files stay available.

Sharing is drag-and-drop or click-to-upload. You can add a description and recipients and email the share link directly (when SMTP is configured), with customizable email templates. Reverse shares let others upload files to you through a link, and every share is manageable from your share list — edit, extend, or revoke it anytime.

Pingvin Share supports local storage and Amazon S3 (or S3-compatible) file providers. For authentication it offers OIDC and LDAP, and it can integrate with ClamAV to scan uploaded files for malware. It is licensed under the permissive BSD-2-Clause open source license.
