Receipt Wrangler

Receipt Wrangler is a self-hosted receipt management application that combines OCR scanning, AI-assisted data extraction, and email-based ingestion into a single system you run on your own hardware. It targets both households splitting shared costs and small businesses processing expense reports, with multi-user groups and a flexible permission model.

At its core, the app captures receipts — by photo upload, file drop, or forwarded email — and turns them into structured records. The built-in OCR engine handles the initial text extraction, while an AI pass fills in merchant, date, total, tax, and line items when OCR is uncertain. Receipts can be tagged, categorized, and split across users or groups, and the system produces reports suitable for reimbursement or budgeting. The Go-based API ships alongside a desktop app and a mobile app, all consuming the same backend, so the same receipts show up everywhere.

The project is released under AGPL-3.0 and packaged as a Docker container with separate desktop and mobile builds. Compared to Expensify, Dext, or Shoeboxed — the dominant hosted receipt platforms — Receipt Wrangler keeps every receipt and every byte of extracted data on infrastructure you control, with no per-user pricing, no data retention policies you do not set, and a fully self-hostable stack.
