EffectCraft
Open-source motion graphics and VFX compositor in Rust — a clean-room challenger to Adobe After Effects.
EffectCraft is a free, open-source motion graphics and visual effects compositor in the spirit of Adobe After Effects, rebuilt in pure Rust by the ArtCraft team. It already ships a working toolkit: compositions and nested precomps, layer kinds from solids and shape layers to text and footage, a render queue, 3D cameras and lights, and 306 effects — a superset of After Effects' 298, down to matching parameter names and order.
Animation works the way AE users expect: linear, Bezier, hold, auto and roving keyframes; trim paths, repeaters and round corners on shapes; point and paragraph text with real typography; puppet tools on deformable meshes; time remapping, stretch and freeze frames; and JavaScript expressions that speak the After Effects object model, including wiggle and loopOut. Export covers ProRes MOV (Proxy to 4444 XQ with alpha), HEVC and AV1, and Lottie goes both ways — import and export — so animations move straight onto web and mobile. Video and audio codecs are pure Rust (shared with FilmCraft), with no FFmpeg dependency.
Projects are versioned JSON (.ecproj) that diffs cleanly in git, nothing phones home, and an MCP server, CLI and control channel expose every command to scripts and AI agents. EffectCraft is young and moving fast, but it is already usable on macOS, Windows, Linux and the web.
