ExifCleaner
Cross-platform desktop app that removes EXIF and hidden metadata from 90+ file formats before sharing.
Open source alternative to:
ExifCleaner is a cross-platform desktop application for removing EXIF and other hidden metadata from images, videos, PDFs, and other files. Built with Electron, React, and TypeScript, it wraps the industry-standard ExifTool engine (by Phil Harvey) to process 90+ file formats through an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.
The app provides before/after metadata inspection so you can verify exactly what gets removed from GPS coordinates to camera serial numbers, timestamps, thumbnail data, and more. Files are processed in parallel using fast batch operations, making it suitable for cleaning hundreds of files at once.
ExifCleaner is fully offline with zero telemetry or network access, ensuring your files never leave your device. It replaces paid metadata removal tools like BatchPurifier and MetaClean while offering broader format support, a modern dark-mode UI, and complete cross-platform availability on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
