Kadō is an open source (MIT) habit tracker for iPhone and iPad with three core commitments: a non-binary habit score instead of a fragile streak, complete data privacy, and a fully native Apple experience. It is built entirely in SwiftUI with SwiftData for local storage, and has zero third-party dependencies.

The habit score — an exponential moving average inspired by Loop Habit Tracker on Android — rewards long-term consistency instead of punishing a single missed day. Habits can be binary, counters, or timers, on daily, N-days-per-week, specific-weekday, or every-N-days schedules, and any past day can be edited directly from the monthly calendar. The app ships with Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Siri and Shortcuts support, per-habit reminders, per-day notes, and an overview matrix of all habits across days.

Where paid iOS trackers like Streaks or Habitify are closed source and streak- or subscription-centric, Kadō is free with no account, no subscription, and no telemetry. All data stays on device, sync is optional and goes only through your own private iCloud database, and lossless JSON and CSV export keeps you in control of your data. An optional Tip Jar exists but unlocks nothing — the entire app is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which devices does Kadō run on?

Kadō is a native app for iPhone and iPad, requiring iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later. It includes Home Screen widgets (small, medium, and large) and Lock Screen widgets. There is no Apple Watch app and no Android version.

Does Kadō require an account or an internet connection?

No. There is no account and no sign-up; all data is stored locally on your device. Logging habits works fully offline. Sync across your devices is optional and, when enabled, goes only through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database. The app contains no analytics and no third-party SDKs.

Can I export or back up my habit data?

Yes. Kadō supports lossless export and import in both JSON and CSV formats, and the round trip is covered by tests. You can open a CSV backup in Numbers or Excel, edit it, and import it back into the app.

What kinds of habits and schedules does Kadō support?

Habits can be binary (done or not), a counter, or a timer. Schedules can be daily, N days per week, specific weekdays, or every N days, with the cycle re-anchoring on each completion. You can also add a short note to any day, edit past days from the calendar, and shift the day rollover as late as 6 AM.

Does Kadō work with Siri, Shortcuts, and widgets?

Yes. Built on App Intents, you can complete a habit, log a value, or ask for a score and streak using Siri or the Shortcuts app, and quickly complete habits from Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. Each habit can also have its own reminder notification with check and skip quick actions.
