#1Tandoor Recipes

Tandoor Recipes

Open-source, self-hosted recipe manager — import from any website, plan meals, build shopping lists and cook with family. Free alternative to Paprika.

Tandoor Recipes is a free, open-source, self-hosted recipe manager built for people with an ever-growing collection of digital recipes. Import recipes from thousands of websites, organize them into cookbooks, plan your week on the built-in meal calendar, and generate shopping lists straight from your meal plan or any recipe — all running on your own server, with your data staying yours.

Built by and for power users, Tandoor goes well beyond a simple recipe box. Its search supports full-text queries and TrigramSimilarity, with customizable filters, batch tagging, and quick merge and rename tools for ingredients, tags and units. Recipes support fractions or decimals, serving scaling, image compression, printing views, and supermarket organization. Optional AI-powered features can recognize images, sort recipe steps, and find nutrition facts.

Sharing is built in: a flexible permission system lets you collaborate on recipes with friends and family, and the interface is optimized for use on phones and tablets in the kitchen, localized in many languages. Tandoor can also sync your files with Dropbox and Nextcloud.

Deployment is straightforward with Docker, with example configurations for Kubernetes, Unraid, and Synology. Migrating is easy too — Tandoor can import your existing collection from Paprika, Mealie, Nextcloud Cookbook, Chowdown, Pepperplate and more. The project is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and actively welcomes contributions on GitHub.

#2Norish

Norish

Realtime, self-hosted recipe app for households: import recipes from anywhere, plan meals, share groceries and cook together.

Norish is a free, self-hosted recipe app built around a household rather than a single user. Recipes come in from a link, pasted text or JSON-LD, photos of a cookbook page, or a YouTube, Instagram or TikTok video, and are organised into shared cookbooks with their own covers. A cooking mode shows one step at a time with inline timers, keeps the screen awake, scales quantities to the number of servings and links each step to the ingredients it uses so those amounts scale along. Metric and US measurements convert with one tap or automatically as a recipe opens.

Everything is realtime: recipe edits, ticked grocery items and meal plans appear on every device without a refresh, and the shared meal calendar can sync to an external calendar over CalDAV. The grocery list is shared and sorted by aisle, supports recurring items and per-store prices, and leaves out anything already in the pantry. Nutrition per serving is calculated from ingredient weights against CIQUAL, USDA FoodData Central, CoFID and Open Food Facts, with per-household corrections when the numbers do not match what you buy.

Norish runs from a Docker Compose stack with PostgreSQL, Redis and a headless browser for scraping recipe pages, and installs as a PWA that caches recent recipes, cookbooks, groceries and the current calendar window so it keeps working offline, replaying queued changes when the server is reachable again. Authentication is email and password, any OIDC provider such as Authentik or Pocket ID, GitHub or Google, and the interface ships in fifteen languages. AI features are optional and work with any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including Ollama or LM Studio on your own machine. Recipe archives import from Mela, Paprika, Mealie, Tandoor and Recipe Keeper. Unlike Paprika, AnyList or Recipe Keeper there is no subscription or device limit: you run it and the data stays on your server.
