Monbooru
Self-hosted, booru-style gallery that tags, searches and deduplicates a local image, video and comic collection.
Open source alternative to:

Monbooru is a single-binary, self-hosted gallery for a personal image collection, built around the booru conventions that anime and AI-art collectors already use: tag categories with aliases and implications, a general-to-explicit rating scale with a configurable SFW ceiling, ratings, favourites, saved searches, collections and a search syntax with wildcards, OR and exclusions. Images, video, animated GIFs and CBZ/ZIP archives stay as ordinary files and folders on disk, while a per-gallery SQLite database holds tags, relations and thumbnails. Removing monbooru leaves your files exactly where they were.
It is aimed squarely at local media libraries rather than phone-camera rollups. Stable Diffusion metadata from A1111/Forge and ComfyUI (prompts, models, seeds, full workflows) is read and shown per image, and local ONNX taggers such as WD14 SwinV2, animetimm EVA02, JoyTag, Camie v2 and PixAI can label the collection on CPU or GPU without sending anything off the machine. A file watcher picks up new, moved and deleted files within seconds, SHA-256 hashing keeps one file from becoming two entries, and declared relations plus near-duplicate detection with a side-by-side review session handle alternates, version chains and duplicates.
The core app never touches the internet. Downloading from boorus and reverse image lookup (IQDB, SauceNAO, Hydrus Public Tag Repository) happen through the optional monloader companion, with a browser extension (monsender) for sending the page you are on. Compared with cloud photo services such as Google Photos or iCloud Photos, there is no storage subscription and no upload, but also no mobile apps or automatic camera backup. Compared with a paid desktop catalogue like Eagle, you get booru-style tagging, an inbox review workflow and a documented REST API, and you host it yourself instead of licensing a seat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which platforms does Monbooru run on?
Monbooru is a self-hosted web app served at localhost:8455, with three install paths: a Docker image, a portable folder you unpack anywhere, and normal installers. The installers cover Windows, Linux AppImage, Flatpak and an Arch Linux AUR package, and each download comes as lite or bundled, where bundled includes ffmpeg and ONNX Runtime for video thumbnails and CPU auto-tagging. It is not designed for direct exposure to the public internet.
Does Monbooru have an API, plugins, or themes?
Yes. A REST API lives under /api/v1, with an OpenAPI spec at /api/v1/openapi.json and an HTML reference at /api/v1/docs that match the version you run. Access is gated by tokens you create under Settings, each with read, write and delete scopes. Plugins are separate HTTP services that pair with monbooru and add buttons to an image page or the batch bar, and themes are folders under themes/ containing a theme.css that overrides a documented set of CSS variables.
Can I import an existing collection into Monbooru?
The import tool under Settings, Galleries, Import accepts a zipped export from Hydrus Network or Blombooru, and you choose Merge or Replace. Hydrus exports need a .txt tag sidecar per file, and namespaced tags map onto the matching monbooru category. Merge matches images by SHA-256, so on a Hydrus import it uses the SHA-256 filenames. Hydrus URLs, notes and file relationships are not carried over, and Blombooru albums, ratings and parent/child relations are dropped.
What are the system requirements for self-hosting Monbooru?
The core is a single self-contained binary of about 21 MB with one SQLite file per gallery, so there is no database server or cache layer to run. ffmpeg is optional and only needed for video, animated previews, AVIF and JPEG XL thumbnails. Auto-tagging needs ONNX Runtime plus a model placed in the models folder, and runs in a worker that unloads itself when idle. A Docker install mounts four volumes: images, data, config and models.
What authentication options does Monbooru support?
Login is an optional single password, enabled in the config or Settings, with a configurable session lifetime. There is no user account system, OAuth, LDAP or SSO, which fits its stated target of a local network install. API access uses revocable bearer tokens with individual read, write and delete permissions, and the API stays disabled until the first token exists.
