OpenSEO

An open-source, self-hostable SEO suite and pay-as-you-go alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs for keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks, and site audits.

Open source alternative to:

OpenSEO is an open-source SEO toolset designed as a lightweight, user-controlled alternative to expensive platforms like Semrush and Ahrefs. It is completely free to use and easy to self-host, with a managed version also available.

Instead of locking you into expensive monthly subscriptions, OpenSEO operates on a pay-as-you-go model through DataForSEO APIs — you only pay for the data you actually use. This makes it significantly more cost-effective for individuals, small agencies, and indie makers who do not need the full bloat of enterprise SEO suites.

The platform covers the core SEO workflows: keyword research to find topics worth targeting and estimate demand; rank tracking to monitor keyword positions across desktop and mobile with SERP feature detection; domain insights to understand where visibility is gained or lost; backlink analysis to see who links to your site and where links are newly won or lost; and site audits to catch technical issues early so search engines can crawl and rank your site more effectively.

OpenSEO is built to be forked and extended, with a roadmap that includes AI SEO, GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), LLM visibility, and MCP integration for Claude. It supports self-hosting via Docker or Cloudflare Workers.
