Equibles
Self-hosted MCP server that gives AI agents SEC filings, XBRL financials, 13F holdings, insider and congressional trades, and daily prices.

Equibles is a self-hosted financial data server that speaks the Model Context Protocol, so an AI assistant can query company fundamentals, ownership, trading activity, and macro data directly instead of you copying numbers between browser tabs. The AGPL-3.0 core is written in C# on .NET 10 and ships as a Docker Compose stack: ParadeDB for storage, a worker that scrapes the public sources on a schedule, a web portal at port 8080 for browsing, and an MCP endpoint at port 8081.
Out of the box it ingests SEC EDGAR filings and XBRL financial statements, 13F institutional holdings, Form 3/4/5 and Form 144 insider data, House and Senate congressional trade disclosures, fund and adviser filings (NPORT, N-CEN, Form D, Form ADV), SEC and FINRA short data, FRED economic indicators, CFTC Commitments of Traders positioning, CBOE volatility and put/call ratios, USAspending contract awards, the FDA advisory-committee calendar, and daily OHLCV prices from Yahoo Finance. It also imports verified European listings keyed by ISIN and venue. That data is exposed through 70 MCP tools, and the web portal adds charts with technical indicators, holder screeners, insider and short-activity leaderboards, and CSV export.
It is aimed at analysts, quants, and developers who want terminal-grade reference data in an AI workflow without paying for a Bloomberg terminal, and who would rather own the database than rent API calls from Koyfin, LSEG Workspace, or TradingView. The trade-off is that this is a research corpus, not a trading feed: prices are end-of-day, 13F data arrives with the SEC's filing lag, and the self-hosted build leaves out live quotes, options chains, earnings-call transcripts, and the market-wide screener. Those live in the paid Equibles Cloud, which runs the same core against a pre-backfilled, always-current database.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the minimum system requirements to self-host Equibles?
Docker Engine 20.10 or newer with Compose v2, 2 GB of free RAM (4 GB recommended, 8 GB if you enable the embedding stack), and about 5 GB of disk that grows as scrapers backfill history. Any modern x86-64 or ARM64 CPU works, and outbound HTTPS access is enough, so no inbound ports are needed. You do not install .NET or PostgreSQL locally, but the database must be ParadeDB rather than vanilla PostgreSQL because the migrations rely on the pgvector and pg_search extensions.
Do I need API keys to run Equibles?
You must set SEC_CONTACT_EMAIL in the .env file, because SEC EDGAR requires a contact address in the User-Agent header. FRED economic indicators and FINRA short data each need a free API key from those providers; without them the matching scrapers are skipped cleanly while everything else keeps running. MCP_API_KEY and AUTH_USERNAME/AUTH_PASSWORD are optional and only add authentication to the MCP endpoint and web portal, which are open by default.
How do I connect Equibles to Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI client?
Point the client at the MCP server over HTTP at http://localhost:8081/mcp, or add an Authorization: Bearer header if you set MCP_API_KEY. Claude Desktop and ChatGPT Desktop take that URL in their MCP server configuration file, and for Claude Code you run claude mcp add equibles --transport http http://localhost:8081/mcp. Clients that launch servers as subprocesses can use the --stdio flag instead, which requires building the server first.
Does Equibles give me real-time prices?
No. Stock prices come from Yahoo Finance as end-of-day OHLCV and refresh once every 24 hours, so the self-hosted build is for research and analysis rather than live trading. SEC filings are polled on a ten-second minimum interval but can take minutes to appear after publication, 13F holdings are quarterly with a 45-day filing lag, and FINRA and FRED data follow those agencies' daily or bi-monthly release schedules. Live quotes and options chains are cloud-only.
Can I limit which tickers and how much history Equibles scrapes?
Yes. Set Worker__TickersToSync__0, Worker__TickersToSync__1, and so on to sync only a chosen list instead of every ticker, which keeps both disk use and backfill time down. Worker__MinSyncDate controls how far back the scrapers go: the default start is 2020-01-01, a later date makes the first sync much faster, and the earliest supported date is 2000-01-01. Both settings are read from the .env file on the next worker start.
